Stenciling Steps to success
Although you can buy stencils and templates stencils kit is much more rewarding and fairly easy to create your own drawings and cut the stencil. The materials are in office supply stores or art.
You can mask any wall until its surface is opaque, porous and very smooth. Before starting with the stencil, paint the wall with flat latex or alkyd paint.
After cutting the stencil, do a few trial runs. Design a piece of white tapePaper (freezer wrap works well) and practice. Repeat until you get a feel for the process. Here are three simple steps to lead to successful stenciling.
1 With a wax pencil, trace your design on a sheet of clear acetate. Repeat the drawing on multiple sheets of acetate, so that you also have a separate stencil for each color in the design.
2 Protect your work surface with a large piece of cardboard. Then cut with a sharp knife like a pencil artist, drawing oneach of the acetates. Use your free hand to rotate the stencil so that the knife cut in the same direction. Do not lift the blade, was completely cut to the form.
3 To calculate how many times to design, model and measure the area you are applying. Divide the model is the measure in the field, if there is a rest, I use it for the distance between repetitions of a drawing.
